Tips to Maintain Productivity While Physically Distancing



Physical Distancing to keep your community safe is miraculous enough. This is not the time to feel guilty that we won't emerge Nobel Prize recipients, or to put additional pressure on yourself to be perfect. There is no shame in taking frequent breaks, spending time with family or finding the space to relax. However, this does not mean that we don't still have responsibilities, and the shift to working from home can make these difficult to accomplish. It is important to do what makes you happy, whether that be finding new hobbies or not moving from the couch all day. But staying on top of your workload is not only conscious of the future, but maintains a sense of personal purpose that makes days feel more fulfilling.


Study Tips

1. Make Realistic Lists: Be honest about what can and can't be accomplished in a day to ensure that you can get to each item. This maintains your sense of accomplishment, and sets you up to have more consecutive productive work days.

2. Try to Have Your Own Work Space: It doesn't have to be fancy. Setting up a space that's just for you in work mode helps separate your work and relaxed frames of mind.

3. Reach Out to Teachers/Peers/UB If You Need Help: We all want to see you succeed, and we are here for you always.

4. Keep Your Long-Term Goals in Mind: Eventually, COVID-19 will make a lesser impact on our daily lives. While it is not expected of you to make waves during this difficult time, make sure you emerge from this experience still on track to achieve your goals. When I get overwhelmed, I think of where I envision myself in the near future, and it makes taking the small steps to get there each day easier to do.
